Frequently asked questions

Is there any flexibility with the arrival and departure times?
If we have no prior booking we can accommodate an early arrival but  check out times are set because staffing and housekeeping requirements are often difficult to change for the next booking.

Will you allow fireworks or Chinese lanterns?
Unfortunately we will not allow fireworks or Chinese lanterns. We are surrounded by livestock who would be adversely affected and our priorities lie with the wildlife and nearby residents.

Will our service providers be allowed access prior to the day for set up?
We will do our utmost to allow access to the house, marquee and grounds whenever possible.

If we are having a marquee celebration will there be access to the House?
We include access to the house during the day and for the arrival of you evening guests but it will be locked during the evening celebrations.  This is due to licencing regulations with Hudsons being the responsible party.  Their staff will ensure that overnight guests only can gain access.

Are pets allowed?
Pets are permitted on the ground floor of the house only and will not be allowed in the kitchen if outside catering is on site.

Can we decorate the marquee?
Yes, every wedding must have its own character. Decoration will be permitted as long as it doesn’t leave any visual effects or defects.  It can be discussed with the wedding coordinator.

Can we decorate the gardens, for example additional lighting?
We can help you with your lighting choices with prior consultation.

Are there designated smoking areas?
We have designated smoking areas to the rear of the house and outside the marquee.

Can you recommend anywhere close by for additional accommodation?
There are several hotels and a holiday park very close but we do have preferential rates with the Lairhillock Lodge which is within 2 miles from our venue.

Do you allow confetti to be thrown at your venue?
We will allow biodegradable confetti in moderation.

Can you provide an easel to hold our table plan?
We can provide an easel for the table plan.

Can you recommend any local suppliers (photographers, florists etc)?
We can supply contacts for most requirements. Please see our Partners page for recommendations.

Can my photographer have access to the house and grounds prior to the wedding day?
We will accommodate additional access whenever possible.

Do you have a bridal suite?
We have the Alexandra suite for the bride and groom.

Can we bring our own cots and bedding?
Yes, the majority of our rooms are large enough to accommodate cots. It would be helpful to have prior notice so that we can help with the planning. We can supply one travel cot and one cot. Please supply your own bedding for cots as required.

What are the car parking arrangements?

For smaller groups the gravel drive and surrounds are sufficient for parking up to 10 cars. For events there is parking for up to 40 cars within a few yards of the venue and another 50 spaces in our over-flow carpark around 100 yards from the house.

Is there disabled access?

The ground floor is disabled friendly and we have disabled toilet facilities for any receptions. Due to the age of the house the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs have a number of steps between them so they are not suitable. Lairhillock Lodge 2 miles away offers bedrooms with disabled access.
